A substitute classroom assistant who was allegedly involved in a physical altercation with a student on Thursday has been removed from Colorado Springs School District 11's on-call sub list, said Devra Ashby, spokeswoman for the district.
The altercation happened at Galileo School of Math and Science sometime on Thursday morning, Ashby said. No one was injured as a result of an argument, but Colorado Springs police and D-11 security are investigating the incident.
"This was an isolated incident, a very rare situation and something that we do take very seriously," Ashby said.
Ashby did not know what grade the student is in, and she did not know what the aide was doing at the school on Thursday. The person is an education support professional, who was on the district's call list to fill in for employees. The person is not a licensed teacher, she explained.
The D11 human resources department is looking into the incident, and therefore the name of the aide has not yet been released.
