Colorado Springs police detectives spent hours at the scene of a serious motorcycle crash Wednesday afternoon that left the motorcyclist with life-threatening injuries.
The crash, between the motorcycle and a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix, happened just after 3 p.m. Wednesday at the intersecton of Hutchinson Drive and East Fountain Boulevard, police said.
The driver of the Grand Prix turned left off Hutchinson in front of the motorcyclist. The rider, on a 2008 Kawasaki Ninja, was unable to stop and struck the driver's side of the car, police said.
Detectives believe that alcohol and drugs were factors in the accident. The motorcyclist, who sustained life-threatening injuries, was transported to a local hospital, and a condition update was not available by 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Detectives from the major accident unit continued to investigate the scene well into the evening, and were still at the intersection just after 8 p.m., police said.
