Woman sexually assaulted while getting mail, police say

A woman was sexually assaulted while getting her mail Saturday evening, after a strange man sneaked behind her, held a knife to her side, and forcibly assaulted her, Colorado Springs police said.

Around 8 p.m. on Saturday evening, the woman walked to her communal mailbox near University Village View and Pepperdine Point when the strange man approached her from behind, covered her mouth and at knife-point directed her to nearby field, where he sexually assaulted her, police said.

He assaulted her until a passing car scared him away, police were told.The man fled and has not yet been identified or found by police.

The police Adult Sex Assault Crime Unit is investigating the incident, and no further information was available on Tuesday evening.
