Springs police investigate string of robberies

Colorado Springs police were hunting for four men in a black sedan after a late-night robbery spree in the northeastern side of the city.

The string of crimes started at 11:36 p.m. Friday at a Diamond Shamrock convenience store at 3290 Austin Bluffs Parkway. Within the next hour, two other Diamond Shamrock stores were hit, at 5553 Austin Bluffs Parkway and 5790 N. Carefree Circle. The spree ended with a mugging at Academy Boulevard and Radiant Drive, police said.

“The descriptions of the suspects were similar at all the sites,” police said in a news release. “One Black male and three Hispanic males in dark clothing.”

Police say all four robbers were armed with pistols and several shots were fired in the course of the Carefree Circle robber. No one was injured.

Police say they were likely traveling in a black sedan.

Police say the robbers made off with an undisclosed amount of cash and merchandise.

It’s unclear if those robberies were tied to a 3 a.m. mugging outside a King Soopers store at 3620 Austin Bluffs Parkway. In that case, a masked man robbed two people at gunpoint before fleeing to a nearby apartment complex.

Police hunted for him, but didn’t find the robber.
