LETTERS: GOP to self-destruct; Don't buy the scam; and more

Don’t buy into the scam

What an amazing plan Romney has; “Everyone gets a 20 percent reduction of their tax rate.” Sounds great! Wait, won’t that add to the deficit? “Oh, no”, says Romney & Ryan, “it will be deficit neutral, we will eliminate loopholes.” Which ones? Can’t say, will work out the bad news later, make it bipartisan; share the blame. Vote for us, we’ll lower your tax rate and insist Congress agree on what deductions to eliminate.

More tax cuts for the wealthy and trust us, they’ll use that money to create jobs. Right!

What makes you think they’ll just get rid of the loopholes that benefit the rich?

Don’t buy into the scam! You’ve been scammed by big businessmen before, the cable company, the cellphone company, the credit card company, bank fees, late fees, mortgage company, the list doesn’t end. Romney wants to be the businessman who pulls off the biggest scam ever. Child tax credits, tuition tax credits and Pell Grants, the mortgage interest and charitable contribution deductions — they’ll all be up for grabs. Ask for full disclosure.

If they won’t even tell you what the whole plan is, don’t sign a four-year contract, with a no cancellation option.

No ‘do-overs’ allowed

As a teacher, I know that students are taught the basics of good behavior beginning in kindergarten: respect, responsibility, and safety. President Obama and Vice President Biden seemed to have missed those lessons. They have been extremely disrespectful during the debates. The administration’s irresponsible handling of the federal budget has kept the middle class “buried” and our national debt unsustainably sky-high. Both men have lied about the terrorist (not protest) attack in Libya, which killed Ambassador Stevens and three others, the status of Iran’s nuclear-bomb capabilities, the unraveling of the Arab Spring, and the strength of al- Qaida (definitely not “on its heels”), putting the safety of all Americans at risk.

No “do-overs” should be allowed for this administration. It’s time to expel both of them and elect leaders who display the necessary traits of respect, responsibility, and safety. It’s elementary: Vote for Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan Nov. 6.

GOP ready to self-destruct

Marvin O. Maul (“Total control of government”, Letters, Oct. 14) seems to be having terrifying nightmares about the prospect of an Obama presidency when he isn’t losing sleep over the looming totalitarian take-over of the United States. He seems particularly concerned about the immediate threat to our two-party system.

I believe the most immediate threat to our two-party system is the hijacking of the Republican party by a radical right wing.

In most of my conversations with Republican friends, it seems like the Republican Party is ready to self-destruct.

The only question is will it happen by aneurysm (“Obama took the flag off Air Force One, but you’ll never see it in the “lame-stream” media!) or cannibalism (anyone seen W. lately?)

Mr. Maul, hope for the best and work in faith to realize your dreams.

As Barbara Bush once said, ““Your success as a family... our success as a nation... depends not on what happens inside the White House, but on what happens inside your house. “

The vitriol has to end sometime. Maybe we all just need to get a little more sleep. Sweet dreams.
