Home and Style
Whether you are looking for your next home, or just want to get a few home design and remodeling ideas, the Parade of Homes is the place to be. The Parade of Homes is the perfect event for seeing what types of homes are available and get a peek at the latest construction innovations as well as design inspirations for your own home.
This home tour is the 58th annual Parade of Homes put on by the Housing and Building Association of Colorado Springs (CSHBA) and this year features 24 homes by 18 different home builders. These homes showcase the latest in construction technology, sustainable living and interior design and are the result of thousands of trade partners coming together to create homes that will inspire and enlighten you with the latest trends.
The CSHBA is excited to offer a look at some of the latest ground-breaking advances in construction technology. A few examples of these highlights include:
- Hi Point Home Builders provides environmental comfort in their second LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified and WaterSense home offered in the Colorado Springs Parade of Homes
- Saddletree Homes 2 GB system allows the homeowners to remotely control anything from lights to thermostats, and other items that they may add to the system.
- Pikes Peak Habitat for Humanity’s home features repurposed, reused, and recycled furniture from the Pikes Peak Habitat for Humanity ReStore. This home also has Water Returns using cutting edge landscape and design irrigation systems for sustainable water in an arid environment.
The fact is, now is a great time to buy a home, especially if you’ve been sitting on the fence. Interest rates remain at astounding, record lows and it’s hard to guess how much longer that will continue. For a prospective new homebuyer, lower interest rates mean lower mortgage payments and can also mean more home.
We are also starting to see a shift in sales prices. U.S. housing prices rose 0.8 percent, on a seasonally adjusted basis, from March to April year (according to the Federal Housing Finance Agency’s monthly House Price Index). Here, in the Rocky Mountain region, home prices rose 6.7% in the past year.
When considering all of this, it’s time to get off the fence, and there’s no better place to start looking than this years Colorado Springs Parade of Homes.
The 2012 Parade of Homes is through August 19 and homes will be open from 10am to 6 pm daily. You can buy tickets at Safeway stores, the official ticket outlet for the Parade of Homes, and at La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries or any of the Parade homes. Complimentary active duty military tickets will be available at Mike Shaw Buick-GMC.
The CSHBA has made navigating the Parade easy by providing free comprehensive guidebooks, which are available at any Parade Home. The guidebook includes a list of homes by builder and location. The CSHBA website has a map and the guidebook as well as a list of the Parade Builders and their contact information
The main sites this year, (meaning they feature 3 or more homes), include Banning Lewis Ranch, Flying Horse and Meridian Ranch, however many homes are scattered throughout Colorado Springs to display some of the finest neighborhoods in El Paso County.
While you’re touring homes, don’t forget to enter the Parade of Homes Grand Prize Giveaway for $2,500 to La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries. You can enter in one of two ways, 1) by ticket submission - On the back of every ticket is a list of designated builders to be visited by the ticket holder. These designated builders will stamp the back of the ticket as proof of visitation. Once these builders have stamped the ticket, the ticket holder deposits it into a ballot box located at Parade homes and/ or main sites, or 2) Online - One entry per person. You must be over 18 years of age to enter. Notice of the two ways to enter will be stated on each Parade ticket, the Parade magazine, and in all advertisements, where feasible. Please see the Parade of Homes website at www.springsparade.com.
The Parade of Homes is also collecting non-perishable food items at any Parade Home from August 3 through the 19, to benefit the Care and Share Food Bank, the largest non-profit hunger relief agency in southern Colorado.
The CSHBA would like to thank the major supporters of the Parade of Homes: Champion Windows of Colorado Springs, Freedom Financial Services, La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries, Mike Shaw Buick GMC and American Furniture Warehouse.
