Doherty team wins state auto skills competition

Doherty High School students recently defeated older students to win first place at the state-wide, 2012 Ford AAA Student Auto Skills Competition.

The Doherty team will represent Colorado June 10-14 at the 2012 Ford AAA National Finals in Dearborn, Mich.

Each student also won over $57,000 worth of automotive scholarships as part of the first-place honor. Warren Technical College took second place

Doherty junior, Colby Gillette, and senior, Juan Tarango, placed first in the “hands-on” portion of the competition. The two completed the competition in less than 54 minutes and were the only team with a perfect car, surpassing nine of the top schools in Colorado.
