The branding team charged with picking a new logo to accompany the city's "Live it up!" tagline has picked a company to design the fresh look, but isn't ready to unveil the logo ideas to the public.
After the "Live it up!" slogan and an accompanying logo featuring a stylized Pikes Peak were unveiled in November, a public backlash led to an effort to come up with a reimagined logo. A "curation team" picked four finalists in January from a field of 27 applications. Each of those finalists was paid $1,000 for submitting up to three designs.
The plan was to pick a handful of the best designs and open them up for public comments on the "Live it up!" website, LiveItUpCS.co, but, after seeing the preliminary designs, the curation team felt that Troy and Sara DeRose of Fixer Creative Co., were the clear winners, said Chris Schell, head of the curation team.
"We really felt that Fixer Creative had a better grasp on their concept and the other firms had further to go," Schell said.
That means that Fixer Creative will fine-tune its designs and those will be revealed to the public, probably in another two weeks, Schell said.
"We didn't want to release anything to the public that we didn't feel was up to the best," he said.
Fixer will be paid an additional $2,000 as the chosen designers. A winning design will be unveiled in early March.
