A man who was reportedly kidnapped from Canon City over the weekend was arrested Thursday in Colorado Springs after police say he staged his disappearance and tried to extort money from his loved ones.
Richard Jones, 32, was reported missing on Saturday and afterwards, the alleged kidnappers demanded money for his release.
The case was investigated by Colorado Springs, Canon City and Florence police departments and led to a traffic stop about 2:30 p.m. near South Academy Boulevard and Airport Road in Colorado Springs. Inside the vehicle, Jones was found unharmed along with several other people.
Jones was arrested on suspicion of criminal extortion and an unrelated felony warrant out of Fremont County.
