A Colorado Springs man who took photos of local dance troupes and middle school events was arrested last week on suspicion of sexual assault on a child and sexual exploitation of a child, according to Colorado Springs police.

Police say Glen Owen Godec repeatedly sexually abused an 11-year-old girl and had pornographic images of the victim, her younger sister and other unidentified children.

Police do not believe the unidentified children in the photos live in the area, said Lt. Patti Feese, who heads the sex crimes unit for Colorado Springs police.

She said police have been investigating Godec for five months and were told that he had been watching pornographic videos with the victim.

Godec was arrested on suspicion of one count of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust, two counts of sexual exploitation of a child and one count of promotion of obscenity to a minor, according to court records. He was arrested on Dec. 6 and posted a $50,000 bond the same day.

Godec, who was reached by phone Monday, declined to comment.

Feese said Godec was in a position to have contact with kids. Families who worry that their children may have had inappropriate contact with Godec are encouraged to contact Detective Dawn Ramirez at 444-7640.

“I know this is something that is very concerning for people who have had contact with him,” Feese said.

Through the years, Godec has faced several possible charges including fraud, theft and domestic violence. In 2004 he pleaded guilty to criminal impersonation and in 2005 he pleaded guilty to assault.

In his PhotoBucket page online, Glen Godec has posted thousands of photos, some personal and others from public events, including a dance recital by Jillian’s School of Dance in Colorado Springs.

The dance school's website encourages parents who want high-quality prints of the photos Godec took to call the photo store.
