Kennel open despite 'probable' inhumane euthanasia

Staff reports Updated: September 22, 2011 at 12:00 am

DENVER — A Denver kennel accused of euthanizing dogs with dish-soap injections remains open despite a state report calling the inhumane method "probable."

Denver's KMGH-TV reports (http://goo.gl/5XcAc ) that the North Washington Street Kennels was investigated by the Colorado Department of Agriculture after two employees reported the unauthorized euthanasia procedure.

The station reports that state investigator Chris Thompson concluded in a January report that it was "probable" that owner Chris Fortin was euthanizing dogs with "soap or some other unacceptable substance."

However, an agency spokeswoman told the station that regulators couldn't get a search warrant to pursue the case. A spokeswoman for the Adams County district attorney's office said there was not enough probable cause to get a search warrant.
