Doherty High School students put together a different kind of fashion show on Friday, Jan. 21.
Doherty senior Chiara Wuorenmaa organized the show to give the students in the life skills department an opportunity to feel like stars.
"We want people to cheer them on," she said.
The project originally was a Girl Scout Gold Award project, but Wuorenmaa ran out of time to finish it for the award, but decided to plan the event anyways. She has been accepted to University of North Colorado and intends to pursue a career in special education.
The students were so happy and excited about being in the fashion show that she would like to see it happen again, and might pass the reins on to her sister, a sophomore at Doherty, she said.
Arc of the Pikes Peak Region thrift stores donated clothes for the event, which featured students from the life skills department. The Salon Professional Academy helped the models with hair and makeup, and stayed to watch the show.
Families, students and staff were invited to the fashion show, which was during sixth and seventh period.
