Two men who fled from police officers while being held at gunpoint were arrested Monday afternoon following a short chase through east-central Colorado Springs.
The chase started just after 2 p.m. when Colorado Springs police officers J. Reeser and P. David spotted two men getting into a reportedly stolen vehicle near the south entrance of The Citadel, near Platte Avenue and Chelton Road.
The officers drew their guns while walking up to the vehicle, but the men did not get out, said Colorado Springs police Lt. Howard Black.
Instead, the vehicle backed up and hit another vehicle, Black said. The second vehicle hit Reeser.
“There’s no visible injuries” from the hit, Black said. “We’ll see how he’s feeling tomorrow.”
Reeser suffered minor abrasions, however, when he tried knocking out one of the vehicle’s windows with a flashlight as they sped away. He was treated and released by medical personnel at the scene, Black said.
The car was found a little less than a mile away on the 1300 block of Kingsley Drive, according to an online police report.
Using a police dog, officers flushed the man suspected of driving the vehicle from a garage on the 1400 block of Bowser Drive, a few blocks from where the car was found.
An officer caught Christopher Bayless, 22, with a taser as he ran from the garage, Black said. He was taken into custody on suspicion of assault on a police officer and aggravated motor vehicle theft.
Corey Mosely, 31, who police suspect was also in the stolen vehicle, was captured a block away, though details weren't available. He also was taken into custody in connection with the incident, as well as an outstanding warrant for obstructing a police officer.
