The Future of Regional Transit steering committee will meet Friday, 1 to 3 p.m., at the Monument Town Hall, 645 Beacon Lite Road, in Monument. The meeting is open to the public.
The committee will discuss potential governance and funding alternatives for regional transit.
The Future of Regional Transit began in August as a nine-month study to determine a new governance structure and more stable funding to deliver regional public transit services.
Steering committee members represent various government agencies involved with transportation services, citizen groups and community organizations.
The committee plans to deliver its recommendations and plan of action to City Council in February. Under the current system, the public regional transit system is funded regionally by various entities but governed by one entity, the city of Colorado Springs. Recent government budget shortfalls have severely impacted funding for the regional transit system.
