CDE names state teacher of year

Colorado Department of Education announced that Michelle Pearson of Hulstrom Options K-8 School in Northglenn has been named Colorado Teacher of the Year.

Pearson has taught at Hulstrom, which is in Adams 12 Five Star School District, since 2004, and in Colorado since 1992.

She was chosen because of her dedication to respect, responsibility and rigor, CDE officials stated. She uses artifacts and technology in her classroom. She comes from a family of educators.

She is a graduate of University of Mary Washington, and has completed graduate work and  continuing education from Delta State University, Adams State College and Colorado State University.

Those vying for the title have to turn in a written application, endorsement letters,, and undergo classroom visits and personal interviews. The selection panel was made up of educators from several state agencies.

She will now compete for the national award.
