Car thieves caught because they can't drive stick

September 25, 2010

A couple of teenagers learned just how difficult it can be to operate a stick-shift transmission Saturday morning.

Police quickly found a stolen purple Ford Explorer early Saturday when police noticed a similar-looking SUV lurching back and forth near Academy Boulevard and Platte Avenue.

When police tried pulling over the SUV, two teens inside the vehicle tried running away. They were quickly caught.

Police later learned the teens did not know how to operate a stickshift. The teens' names have not been released.
