NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Discount retailer Dollar General Corp. has begun making beer and wine available for sale in select stores throughout the Southeast.
The Goodlettsville, Tenn.-based company has sold food and other consumable goods for years — along with everything from home decor items to health and beauty supplies and apparel — and is expanding to now offer alcoholic beverages in some stores.
Dollar General spokeswoman Tawn Earnest said in a released statement the company has started selling beer, and wine where it's lawfully allowed, in some of its stores in the region though she declined to say in what states.
She said over time, the company "expects to offer beer (and/or wine) in about half of its stores, as appropriate."
