AURORA — Police say they arrested a man accused of briefly kidnapping an 8-year-old Aurora girl from her bedroom last week.

The Aurora Sentinel reported Saturday that John Stanley Snorsky, 26, was already in custody in an unrelated case, a charge of false reporting to a pawn shop.

Snorsky faces charges of kidnapping and burglary and is being held in an Adams County jail in lieu of $500,000 bond.

Police said Snorsky carried the girl from her bedroom to an alley behind her home, where she screamed and managed to break free.

He was arrested Tuesday morning in Aurora with the assistance of state parole officials, who were investigating Snorsky over a potential parole violation. Police did not give details on the previous case or the possible parole violation.

Snorsky has been in jail since his initial arrest, but Aurora police "arrived at probable cause to charge him with the kidnapping" on Friday, spokeswoman Sgt. Cassidee Carlson said.

State prison department records show that Snorsky was convicted in two previous cases: one in Arapahoe County in 2004, and another in Denver in 2007.

In the 2004 case, Aurora police arrested Snorsky on several charges, including burglary, using an explosive and motor vehicle theft, according to Colorado Bureau of Investigation records. Snorsky was 17 at the time of the arrest but appears to have been charged as an adult. He pleaded guilty to burglary in a plea agreement and was sentenced to four years in prison.

Snorsky was paroled after a few years and in June 2007 was arrested again, this time on a parole violation.

It's not clear whether anyone who provided tips to the police about the abduction will be eligible for reward money that was offered. Aurora police offered $20,000 for information about the kidnapping, the largest reward by the agency.

Police announced the reward Oct. 29, a day after the kidnapping. Police Chief Dan Oates said the girl was in her bedroom with the light on when the man broke in by cutting a window screen and opening the unlocked window.
