It was an elegant touch of a Victorian past where mothers and grandmothers ate dainty cucumber sandwiches, scones with lemon curd and Devonshire cream, curry egg salad, thumbprint cookies and Russian tea cakes as they sipped tea from china cups.

From May 9 to 11, more than 300 women visited the decorated rooms at Partners in Housing on the Myron Stratton Consortium campus for a tea, a gift boutique and 14 tablescapes set to stir the imagination. More than $8,000 was raised for Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary projects for children in need and families in the community. SAWA members picked six mothers for special recognition.

- Donna Everly, mother of two grown children, grandmother of four boys, foster mother of two and foster-adopt mother of six children considered medically fragile.

- Samantha Adams Lee, a victim of childhood sexual abuse, recovering addict, mother of four, including an autistic son, Christian trauma counselor and volunteer with families and couples.

- Darla Pelletier, lost her home in the Waldo Canyon fire, is mother of two, and as D.J. Sutton wrote "The Fly, the Butterfly and I."

- Cleo Allgood, lost her son, a helicopter pilot, when he was shot down in Iraq and everyone in the chopper died.

- Evelyn Minor, a mother of four and stepmother of four, does volunteer work with Hug a Bear for hospitalized children, Venetucci Farm and Ministry of Helps.

- Master Sgt. Stacy Oliver, a single mother who has been in the Air Force for almost 20 years and is now assigned to the Inspector General at Peterson Air Force Base.

Colorful, creative tablescapes were created by Montague's Parlour, Sparrow Hawk, Wisdom Tea House, Little London Market, Macy's, Patti Cakes Custom Cakes, McIntosh-Weller Antiques, Epsilon Delta Sorority, James and Carolyn Marshall (The Traveling Teapot), Ila Butler and Sharon Fulton, CJ Seals, Pat Collins and Mary Ellen's Tea Room.
