The Urbanites (ULPPR) are "alive and well," said enthusiastic board chair JJ Frazier as they celebrated with a recent Salute to the Community Breakfast.

The group has been busy with education and scholarship fundraisers.

Honored for her service to the Urbanites Leading the Pikes Peak Region and community was Desiree Terrell, instructor and dance coordinator for the Dream Youth Group, which offers youngsters 6 to 12 free activities and dance lessons. Some weeks, along with dance, the youngsters learn dental and personal hygiene and healthy eating. Other weeks, it's history, black history and all about voting.

Terrell's long list of activities also includes the Elks Drill Team and Beauty and Talent Pageant, church and Alpha Kappa Alpha volunteer work, and performing for groups including the Pikes Peak Library District's Shivers Fund concerts. She's a wife, mother and career woman as well, a senior principal software engineer for Oracle Corp.
