An evening of glittering fun had an oncology focus of "Time Matters."

The 475 attendees at the 15th annual UCHealth Memorial Hospital Foundation Gala answered the alert, donating more than $342,000 for oncology research and educational spaces in the new tower at Memorial Hospital North.

The festive evening April 22 at The Broadmoor was led by co-chairwomen Andrea Hurlbert and Rachel Rocks. Special honoree Kathi Braden shared her story of surviving cancer. Joining her and husband Ralph were her "radiation family," the sons of another person undergoing radiation at the same time she did. It's a special relationship that develops between those spending extended time together in chemo and radiation.

Braden encouraged those attending to raise pledge paddles, saying "many times, throughout our journey, we never know the extent of our impact on those who have crossed in our paths."

This gala is known for its exciting auctions, this time highlighted by "Tempo di Mangiare in Toscana," a seven-night trip for four to a private villa in Tuscany, with daily chef-prepared breakfasts, cooking classes, wine tours and a private driver. It sold twice for $13,000 each. Bringing a $10,000 top bid was a trip for 24 in a dozen matched Porsche SUVs to a chef's dinner at Cloud Camp.

Finishing the evening, courtesy of Porsche of Colorado Springs, was a performance by classical pop fusion group Spinphony.

The gala's 10-year sponsor was Crothall Healthcare. Others were W&W/AFCO Steel, The Anschutz Foundation, CDW Healthcare, Colorado Springs Nephrology, Interim Healthcare of Colorado Springs, Monks Construction Co. LLC and WHR Architects.
