It was the return of Crockett and Tubbs and all the "Miami Vice" neon pinks and greens.

Quite the colorful twist to the season-ender awards celebrations.

Guests checking into the Marriott Hotel on April 7 got an eyeful watching people arrive for the Tri-Lakes Chamber/EDC/Visitor Center dinner and auction. A not-quite-authentic "Don Johnson pet gator" named Elvis was strolled through the lobby, where a group of women attired in black minis and high heels and carrying guitars gathered for their Robert Palmer "Addicted to Love" portion of the program.

It was just part of the celebratory evening filled with auctions and awards.

Some of the liveliest auction action was for a garden cart Booze Wagon and baskets of snacks snared by high bidder Evan Pappas, KOAA president and general manager, who had multiple requests to come to his office party.

Leading off the evening's awards was the community Volunteer of the Year John Dickinson, nominated by Tri-Lakes Cares. He also volunteers with Rebuilding Together and Community Senior Services.

The Chamber's Business Person of the Year was Paul Sutton of Peak Structural, who shared the award with wife Lisa.

Named Nonprofit of the Year was the Tri-Lakes Women's Club, with an almost-45-year history of charitable support of service and nonprofit organizations in the Tri-Lakes area.

Top Chamber/EDC Ambassador of the Year was Julie Bishop of Pennica Financial.

Named the EDC Primary Business of the Year was Johnson & Johnson. Manufacturing site leader Ken Bly was joined by an enthusiastic group of staff and families. The company manufactures medical and orthopedic devices.

As the "Miami Vice" crowd danced the night away, Chamber and EDC President/CEO Terri Hayes made the anticipated announcement of next year's theme. Get ready, she said, it's "Top Hats and Tiaras."
