Jane and Frank Evans, local Great Clips franchise owners, have offered complimentary haircuts to military vets on Veterans Day and their shops give haircuts to cancer patients at a time when they most want pretty hair.

Jane, a cancer survivor herself, and her husband have a long list of philanthropies and since 2008 have also added Great Clips' corporate office's choice, Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Locally, the network hospital is Children's Hospital Colorado at Memorial Hospital.

"The annual fundraising campaign allowed everyone in our company, from managers to stylists, to rally behind a single cause," said Jane. "And what better cause than helping sick kids get better?"

Over the years, the shops have raised annual gifts that started at $12,000 and jumped to about $30,000

Before last fall's fundraising campaign, the couple and their salon managers toured the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Memorial Central to see the smallest of the patients and to hear what was needed.

It inspired everyone to do even more, they said, and in the Colorado Springs-Pueblo area they raised $45,675. This one donation will fund a new Giraffe OmniBed, a combination incubator and radiant warmer.
