Dodge Chargers, Mustangs and World War II Army vehicles roared into Florence recently for the highly anticipated Southern Colorado Mopars car club show, a private event for residents of the Bruce McCandless Veterans Nursing Home.

A tradition since 2007, the show included 34 collector and specialty vehicles from the 1940s through present day from Colorado Mopar Club of Denver, Tri-Lakes Cruisers Club, Southern Colorado Mustang Club, Stockers Car Club and Military Vehicle Collectors of Colorado.

As they shared a barbecue lunch, residents and car buffs traded car tales. But perhaps the most special were the war stories, especially those shared by a Normandy survivor, a fighter pilot and a veteran who served on a bomber base in England during WWII.

"Ya just gotta love those WWII guys!" said SCM Activities Director John Rhodes.

Show participants also donated more than $250 to the veterans' home.
