An Army officer severely wounded fighting in Iraq says the Department of Veterans Affairs won’t pay for the feeding tube liquid he needs — leaving him with a hole in his stomach.

Army Maj. Dennis (DJ) Skelton penned an open letter to the VA, published Monday on Foreign Policy’s website, in which he details the ordeal that left him without nourishment.

“On Saturday you had me go to the emergency room at my local hospital to place a feeding tube in my stomach because, with my shot-up palate deteriorating, it is getting dangerous again for me to eat or drink through the mouth,” he wrote.

Only he didn’t hear when the department would send some sort of substance.
