Armed robber at Colorado Springs hotel avoids police

Colorado Springs police could not find a man they said robbed a hotel at gunpoint Saturday evening, eluding K-9 officers and getting away with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Shortly after 8 p.m., a man reportedly walked into the Crossland Economy Studios on 3490 Afternoon Circle, off East Fountain Boulevard, pointed a handgun at two clerks and demanded money, police said.

One of the clerks was able to get away by running out a backdoor, while the second clerk followed the armed robber's demands and laid on the ground.

Police said the robber took cash from the register and fled in an unknown direction, making it impossible for a K-9 Unit at the scene to track him.

Anyone with information can call Colorado Springs police at 444-7000.
