Thanks to cold weather and some early snow, ski season will begin in Colorado Sunday, when Summit County area Arapahoe Basin will be the first in the state to open.
A-Basin, which competes each October with neighboring Loveland Ski Area, will open with one lift and one intermediate-level ski run. Snow-making and a little natural snow will allow the area to open four days earlier than last season.
"This is a very exciting time for us, and all of Colorado,” said chief operating officer Alan Henceroth. “We’ve had tremendous early season snowmaking and natural snow, and we can’t wait to kick off the 2013-14 ski and ride season.”
The lift will open at 8:30 a.m. Tickets are $67 for adults.
