A raccoon or other animal that got into a transformer caused a power outage Thursday night that affected about 5,600 customers on Colorado Springs' south side, according to Colorado Springs Utilities spokeswoman Patrice Lehermeier.

The first calls received about the outage came in at 9:07 p.m.; by 10 p.m., power was being restored to "a great majority of customers" as Springs Utilities re-routed electricity to affected areas, she said.

"There is power coming back on," Lehermeier said about 9:50 p.m. "I think we'll be on the good end of this in a few minutes."

Utilities tweeted around 10:05 p.m. that power had been restored to all customers.

The area affected was east of Nevada Avenue, south of Airport Road, west of Academy Boulevard and north of The Broadmoor World Arena.
