A 32-year-old Colorado Springs man was indicted in August by a grand jury on suspicion of multiple sexual offenses against children.
A federal judge in Denver ordered Justin Craig Smith on Oct. 17 to be held without bond in connection with charges of sexually exploiting children and distributing and possessing child pornography.
Smith had been out on bond since December 2012 before making his first appearance in federal court Oct. 11.
According to a release from the office of U.S. Attorney John Walsh, Smith allegedly used two minors while producing child pornography from July 2010 to April 2011.
The document also alleged that Smith distributed child porn in May 2012 and was found in possession of pornography in December 2012 after Colorado Springs police searched his home. Officers arrested Smith on suspicion of molestation following the execution of the search warrant.
A sexual exploitation conviction would mean at least 15 years in federal prison. Smith could also receive at least five years for distributing child pornography and 10 years in prison for possession of child pornography.
