Alcohol considered a factor in fatal crash overnight in Colorado Springs

The Colorado State Patrol is investigating a fatal crash Sunday morning in southern Colorado Springs and alcohol is considered to be a factor.

A Jeep Grand Cherokee was eastbound about 3 a.m. on Academy Boulevard near the overpass over B Street when the Jeep entered the median, hit a guardrail, stopped and burst into flames, according to a state patrol news release.

The Jeep was consumed by fire before firefighters arrived.

The driver of a Jeep was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver's name wasn't released.

Alcohol is considered a factor in the crash, according to the news release.
