BEMIDJI, Minn. - Junior Matt Serratore had a goal and an assist and Billy Christopoulos made 29 saves as uscho.com No. 20 Air Force defeated Bemidji State 5-1 in a nonconference hockey game Saturday.
The Falcons (4-1-1) took a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals from Jordan Himley and Serratore. Air Force, who had just 19 shots on goal Friday, outshot the Beavers 13-5 in the first period.
Early in the second period, the Beavers (2-1-1 overall) took the game to the Falcons and drew a penalty that led to a power-play goal to cut the Falcons' lead to 2-1. Air Force regrouped to score the next two from Tyler Ledford and Matt Koch. Bemidji pulled its goalie Michael Bitzer and in the final two minutes of the period the Falcons had to kill 31 seconds of a 5-on-3 and the remainder of the 5-on-4 and did so.
Christopoulos made 13 saves in the third period as the Falcons hung on to the three-goal lead. Late in the period, the Beavers pulled the goalie and Himley scored an empty-netter from deep in his own end with 39 seconds left in the game.
