Air Force first baseman Nic Ready was the lone representative of the Mountain West on the Collegiate Baseball News Preseason All-American Team.
Ready was a second-team pick along with Coastal Carolina first baseman Kevin Woodall. TCU’s Luken Baker was the first baseman on the first team.
The publications named three full teams, and Ready was the only Mountain West player named on any of them.
Ready, the son of 13-year MLB veteran Randy Ready, hit .340 with 11 home runs and 53 RBIs last year as a sophomore.
Air Force opens the season on Feb. 16 at Hawaii.
Huffman will miss season for honor violation
The women’s basketball team will be without sophomore Kassady Huffman for the remainder of the season because of an unspecified honor violation.
Huffman began serving a six-month probation in November that will prevent her from playing this season.
Huffman’s loss is a massive one for the Falcons. The 6-foot-2 local product from Air Academy averaged 7.7 points and 5.1 rebounds in a freshman season last year that ended with an injury in early February. She led the team in blocks, and her six rejections against Nevada were a team record since it began playing at the Division I level.
Falcon Stadium renovations begin
Ground has been broken on the latest phase of renovations at Falcon Stadium. Sort of.
At this point only the top soil has been modified and treated. The project will include gutting the north side of the stadium bowl and will include a renovated home and visiting locker rooms with auxiliary locker rooms, medical areas, a new media room and a designated presidential green room.
The construction will also include foundation and structural support for the next phase of renovations, which will be a complex with on the north side with club seating and a recruiting room.
