As a parent, choosing an enticing, age-appropriate book for your child can be tricky. Choosing one that spins a story they simply can’t put down is nearly impossible without a specialized background.
The owner of abaTina Boutique is putting her training and experience to good use for the benefit of parents all over the Pikes Peak Region.
Fredrickson us using her background as an educator and grade school librarian for nearly 30 years to launch Children’s Book of the Month in April.
The first book is “The One and Only Ivan” by Katherine Applegate. The book is for ages 8 and up. “The book is available at abaTina Boutique for $16.99. During the month of April, the book will be offered at 15 percent off.
“The One and Only Ivan” features Ivan, an easygoing gorilla. Living at the Exit 8 Big Top Mall and Video Arcade, he has grown accustomed to humans watching him through the glass walls of his domain. He rarely misses his life in the jungle. Ivan thinks about TV shows he's seen and about his animal friends and about art. Then he meets Ruby, a baby elephant taken from her family, and she makes Ivan see their home — and his own art — through new eyes.
"I loved this book” Fredrickson said. “I laughed. I cried. And at the end felt so, so good."
The Children’s Book of the Month will be chosen to accommodate various age groups and will be promoted in the store’s e-newsletter. If you would like to receive the monthly newsletter, email firstname.lastname@example.org with newsletter in the subject line.
