One of Texas' 10 most wanted sex offenders, a 26-year-old man considered armed and dangerous, was arrested Tuesday morning in Florissant, the Teller County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.
Dakota Markus Stewart was wanted in Texas on suspicion of two counts of failing to register as a sex offender and one count of failing to comply with sex offender registration requirements, the release says. Stewart, "a high-risk sex offender," was added to the most wanted list in October 2017, the release says. He was convicted in 2009 of aggravated sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child by exposure after incidents in Tarrant County, Texas, with two young girls.
Stewart was found "living off the grid" at a campsite in the subdivision of Florissant Heights, the release says. He was arrested by deputies and U.S. marshals.
He is expected to also face charges of attempting to influence a public servant, criminal impersonation and failure to register as a sex offender in Colorado, the release says. He will be held without bond until a hearing in front of a judge.
