After a rare off day on Wednesday, the Sky Sox (20-8) will look to continue the team's best start as it takes a five-game winning streak into a series against Sacramento that begins at 11 a.m. Thursday. The River Cats are the top minor league affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. Here's a look at some of the top Sacramento prospects to track during their four games here in Colorado Springs.
Tyler Beede, RHP
A two-time first-round draft pick (he opted not to sign as the 21st pick when Toronto signed him out of high school), Beede is considered the top-rated prospect in San Francisco's system. The Vanderbilt product will throw as hard at 97 mph and is projected by Baseball America as a future mid-rotation starter in the majors. He's scheduled to pitch Friday night.
Joan Gregorio, RHP
The No. 7 prospect in the system heading into the season according to Baseball America, Gregorio has had a breakout campaign so far with a 1.87 ERA through six starts. He's allowed just 23 hits in 33 2/3 innings. He's tall and skinny at 6-foot-7, 180 pounds, and it hasn't been determined if his future will be as a starter or reliever, but the 25-year-old will fit in somewhere if he keeps up this start. He'll start Saturday opposite Sky Sox standout Brandon Woodruff.
