LAKEWOOD  — Authorities say a fire has killed six horses in the west Denver suburb of Lakewood.

KDVR-TV reports the fire started early Saturday in two adjacent barns in a residential neighborhood. Four other horses survived.

West Metro Fire Rescue Division Chief Gary Armstrong says the fire is suspicious because three other fires were reported in the area Saturday. One involved tires and two were in trash bins.

One firefighter suffered a minor injury but no civilians were hurt.

State and federal investigators were helping firefighters with the inquiry.
