Education: University of Colorado at Colorado Springs: master's degree in public administration MPA; Colorado College: bachelor's degree in economics with a minor in environmental issues

Experience: has held various positions with Green Mountain Falls, including mayor and town trustee; captain at the Green Mountain Falls/Chipita Fire Department; currently serves on Pikes Peak Regional Building Commission, Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority Board; small business owner

What is the single most important action Congress can take to reduce gun violence?

Congress continue to affirm the 2nd Amendment and the right of every person to defend themselves. The root cause of the horrible murders we are seeing in our schools is mental health and enforcement of laws. We need to work harder to find the solutions to help the mentally challenged and to protect our kids. Existing state and federal laws need to be enforced. Guns in schools? That's a decision for the local school districts, parents and teachers. Concealed carry should not have limits by location including interstate reciprocity.

What are the top three needs specific to the 5th Congressional District that you will make your priorities in Congress?

- Regulatory and tax reform - as your representative, my highest priority is to not perpetuate the tax, borrow and spend swamp of D.C.

- Military & Veterans - retention of current missions along with gaining new and supporting veteran services.

- Healthcare - There is a better approach to health care access than a government take-over of the industry. I will work for a free-market approach; inter-state coverage; reducing government regulatory burdens; encourage insurance purchase through incentives; end FDA over-regulation and get the government out of the doctor's office.

What do you bring to this race that none of your opponents can offer?

I bring my unique perspective as a small business owner, never having received a government pay check, I also bring first responder (firefighter & EMS) perspective. I have served our region for more than 25 years, and bring creative problem solving and coalition building skills that will make me an effective congressman for our district.
