A series of three fires within two weeks at a northeast Colorado Springs apartment complex has investigators trying to determine if the fires were intentionally set.

At least one resident at the Sunset Creek Apartments at 5400 North Nevada Ave. had to be treated for smoke inhalation Saturday when a small fire ignited in a third-floor hallway about 2 a.m., police said.

A resident was able to extinguish the flames before firefighters arrived and no tenants were displaced, according to fire officials.

Fire crews responded to two other similar fires at the apartment complex, most recently on Tuesday when a storage room door caught fire about 3 a.m., police said.

Residents told police that a trash can was set on fire a week earlier between the second and third floors at another apartment building.

Arson investigators were dispatched to the apartments after Saturday's incident.
