The bodies of two teenagers - a girl and a boy - were found Sunday morning, lying on the shoulder of Old Pueblo Road in rural El Paso County, authorities said.

The bodies were reported about 8:45 a.m. by a passing driver, and when deputies arrived on scene, the girl and the boy were confirmed to be dead, according to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident as a double homicide.

The identities of the victims have not been released, "pending positive identification and notification of the next of kin," according to the Sheriff's Office.

The section of the road where the bodies were found is just northeast of Pikes Peak International Raceway, running parallel to railroad tracks. The nearest homes are about a quarter-mile south and the area is dotted with cattle ranches.

The Sheriff's Office asked the community to "be vigilant," and anyone who sees "anything out of the ordinary for their area" is asked to call 390-5555.
