GREELEY — Two former Greeley Central High School basketball players are dead after a crash in Weld County.

Matt Garcia and Edwardo Hernandez were driving near Pierce when they were hit by another car on Sunday afternoon. The accident came just a week after their graduation.

The Greeley Tribune (http://bit.ly/1rCD8Ha ) reports that Garcia was honored last week as the best boys basketball player in Weld County during the newspaper's prep sports banquet. Despite being just 5-foot-5, he led the Wildcats with a 16 point scoring average.

School district spokeswoman Theresa Myers says Hernandez was a great student who took multiple Advanced Placement classes.
