Two men were arrested Friday after authorities raided a suspected illegal marijuana grow, finding more than 500 plants "in various stages of growth" and 13 pounds of processed pot, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office said.
Members of the Metro Vice, Narcotics and Intelligence Division got a search warrant for an address in the 16000 block of Jones Road, and it was executed by SWAT and the Sheriff's Office Rural Enforcement Outreach Unit.
The marijuana seized is worth a little more than $425,000, the Sheriff's Office said.
To calculate its value, deputies assume a mature plant yields a pound of processed pot, and a pound of pot is worth about $3,500 "on the black market on the East Coast," spokeswoman Natalie Sosa said in an email.
Antonio Lazaro Moreno, 35, and Armando Javier Vega, 42, were arrested on suspicion of offenses relating to marijuana and booked into El Paso County jail, the Sheriff's Office said.
Between April 1 and April 27, Metro VNI in conjunction with the Sheriff's Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration have executed 10 search warrants and seized 300 pounds of processed pot and 1,000 plants.
