13 flights diverted from DIA to Colorado Springs

Colorado Springs Airport officials said at least 13 flights from four different airlines were diverted from Denver International Airport to the Colorado Springs Friday night due to windy weather and microburst activity in Denver.

The planes, from United Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Frontier Airlines and American Airlines, began arriving at Colorado Springs airport at 6:30 p.m., said Alex Everman with Colorado Springs Airport operations.

The last plane arrived at 7:08 p.m.

"Getting into this time of year, it's fairly common that this occurs," Everman said.

Around 7:30 p.m., he said the planes were in the process of refueling and returning to Denver.
