DENVER — A 33-year-old Denver man has been arrested on suspicion of negligent child abuse after police say his 1-year-old son was seriously injured when he fell from a moving car.

Police spokeswoman Raquel Lopez says the boy and an older sibling were riding in the car in the Green Valley Ranch area at about 9:30 p.m. Friday when one of the children apparently opened a back door and the boy fell out. The 1-year-old had been restrained in a car seat.

The Denver Post reports (http://bit.ly/12bbpP5 ) the father, Ross Bobby McCoy, could also face charges of leaving the scene of an accident involving bodily injury and driving without a license. Police say he contacted them shortly after leaving the scene.

He was arrested in Aurora on Saturday.

It's unclear how fast the car was traveling.
